    Group Lessons

    Santee's fastest growing Music School

Our group instructors teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical styles in guitar, piano and drum group lessons. Beginners work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight and rhythm reading along with theory while continuing students are grouped together with similarly skilled students and receive more customized material. Each lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of method based materials and focus on student needs and preferences, and encourage students to bring song suggestions to their lessons to learn their favorite tunes.

What’s the #1 reason to participate in group lessons at SoCal Music Studio?

Our group instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits each class as well as your individual needs, and explores the student's favorite type of music. Whether you're a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to an instrument after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations. All students are grouped together by experience level and group lessons cost a fraction of the the cost of private lessons.

What will I learn from group lessons at SoCal Music Studio?

Students learn many different things based on their instrument. Beginner string and piano players can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight and rhythm reading along with basic theory, with more experienced students focusing on deeper levels of each and advanced theory and technique. Vocalists focus on breathing, posture, tone and diction while drummers learn basic technique, rudiments, fills and rhythms.

Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of methods and build in multiple levels to each lesson plan so every student can challenge themselves and progress according to their skill level. We also encourage students to bring their song suggestions to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.

Do I need to purchase an instrument to join group lessons?

SoCal Music Studio offers acoustic guitars, ukuleles, electric basses, drum pads/snare kits and electric keyboards for group lessons you can use and take home when getting started. Rental instruments are $17/month (supply limited). We also offer a variety of instruments for purchase that are appropriate for beginners, starting at just $87.00.

How young can my student start to take lessons?

We have students join our programs as young as 6/7 years old if a parent believes their student can focus and pay attention through the lesson. Since each lesson has multiple skill levels built in students can progress at their own pace without feeling discouraged or left behind while also having the ability to progress as fast as desired. If it is apparent that it just isn't the right fit yet for your child we will make other arrangements with you and discuss what the other options that might be a good fit.
